A woman brought her father, an older veteran, to Legal Aid for help when he received a collections notice for a medical bill. He did not remember being billed for the service, and even if this service had been properly billed, his veteran benefits would have covered the cost. Legal Aid confirmed that the Department of Veteran Affairs did not have a record of the service or billing. Legal Aid sent a dispute letter and the collection agency ceased attempts to collect. This case involved less than five billable hours and made a significant difference to the veteran’s income and peace of mind.
