Post: Housing

A client, a single mother of a young child, contacted Legal Aid when it was discovered her child had high levels of lead in her blood. After an inspector found lead hazards in her rental home, the client asked the landlord to make repairs to reduce the lead. Her landlord responded by filing an eviction case against her. Legal Aid represented the mother and notified the City of the lead hazard. The City followed up with a home inspection and filed its own lawsuit against the landlord. Ultimately, the landlord agreed to pay to abate the lead hazards in the home. With the mother’s diligence in making the home a safe environment for her and her child, Legal Aid was able to help the family remain in their home.
