An immigrant woman from West Africa contacted legal aid needing help because of an abusive spouse. Her case was placed with a pro bono attorney, who assisted her with the petition to remove the conditions of residence so that she could qualify for a green card. While the petition was pending, she became eligible to apply for naturalization. With the diligent help of her pro bono attorney, the petition to remove conditions was approved and the client was recommended for naturalization. She was able to leave an unsafe marriage, take her Oath of Allegiance at her naturalization ceremony, and has opened a very successful food business.
