OTHER WAYS TO GIVE

When you make a gift to the ATJ Campaign, 100% of your donation for statewide current operations will be distributed to support civil legal aid to the poor throughout Michigan.  Your gift changes lives.

Qualified Charitable Distributions from an IRA

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can donate up to $100,000 in a calendar year directly from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the Access to Justice Campaign.

Commonly known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) or as an IRA charitable rollover, your contribution may count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD).

How to make a QCD

  • Contact your IRA administrator and ask them to make the check payable to the Access to Justice Campaign, 306 Townsend Street, Lansing, Michigan . Please have them identify you as the donor with name and address.
  • Let our office know about the pending gift with the amount and the company issuing the check to credit your gift. Please email the ATJ Campaign Coordinator at laura@msbf.org
  • The gift must be completed by December 31.

Benefits of making a QCD

  • A QCD counts forward your required minimum distribution for the year. If you have to take a minimum distribution and yet do not want or need the funds, a QCD is a good way to distribute that amount to a charity.
  • Due to the tax benefits and the ease of making a QCD, it is a wonderful way to make annual contributions to the ATJ Campaign.

QCD Restrictions

  • A QCD cannot be made to a donor advised fund, charitable remainder trust, or charitable gift annuity.
  • A QCD cannot be made from a 401(k) or 403(b), but assets from those accounts can be rolled over into a traditional IRA.

Please consult your tax advisor to explore how a qualified charitable distribution to the ATJ Campaign can fit into your financial strategy for the current tax year and beyond.
