A twenty-one year old client contacted legal aid after being denied Social Security income. The client had been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease and was only given an estimated ten years to live. Despite the terminal nature of Huntington’s Disease and the fact that the client was already beginning to show signs of impairment, her claim was denied. The Social Security Administration believed she was still capable of working. A legal aid attorney was able to successfully argue that her condition was already too advanced to hold a job and would only worsen as time went on. She received full benefits and can have peace of mind knowing that she will have the funds for the care she needs.
